I so know what you are talking about! What’s with that? Lyn From Aussie’s Living Simply was indicating it’s because our winter was so cold.

Glad it’s not just me, but I suspect trying to grow things in shade for a large part of the day is a contributing factor around here too. Those beans are in the sunniest part of the backyard, but it’s still unlikely to get 6 hours of sun. There are more beans around the side of the house, in shade for all but maybe two hours, and they haven’t flowered. But I didn’t expect them too, I just didn’t want the weeds to take over again.

Such a pitty! I love broad beans, and am going to see if double peeling them will be enough to entice the kids to eat them this year. I have a bountiful crop with some ready to be picked. Planted in easter and used heaps of well rotted horse manure. There are so many bees buzzing around the flowers this year, more than last I believe, but it could be that I notice these things more now! Hope the beans grow soon before the heat sets in.

could it be that they’re just a little slow? We’ve only had a couple of springlike days, maybe in a week or so… anyway must check my weedpatch to see if the self sown ones have done anything . I love broadbeans too.

I’ve had a closer look at the broad beans of the old lady around the corner (she conveniently grows them in the front yard so others might learn) and she doesn’t appear to have any beans either yet. Just flowers.
So I don’t feel so bad. I will still be begging this weekend though.
