It took lots of goes, several online sock-knitting tutorials, a fair bit of retiring early for peace and quiet to concentrate in the evenings, master classes during family get-togethers, and one false finish. I couldn’t bring myself to blog it when the first finished sock started unravelling while I finished the second.
Knitted between and during paid work, parenting, studying, housework, watching the male football grand final, and a few sick days on the couch, hence the name. They’re also mine all mine, for me and by me. Which is a bit unusual.

Well done Kate. They look great and your hard work has paid off. Now, if you can figure out how to make some sandals for summer, I would love to see them also….

Oh that’s easy. Sandals are made by walking into the city, up Collins St, into the Centreway Arcade, and getting out a credit card. Birkenstock are the only (reasonably accessible) brand in my size.

I have also been known to make sandals like that.
Nice socks, Kate.

Very nice socks. I’ve never finished a single knitting project, not even a scarf.

Noice, very noice.
Are they, perchance, actually your socks? I love the name. I should adopt that for whenever I’m making something and little voices say ‘who’s that for?’ and it’s not for them.

Of course they’re my actual socks! Grafted toes this morning, and they still haven’t unravelled again, so I may even possibly at some stage make some more.

Who’s a clever knitter, then?

Iona is a clever knitter. I’m more your “good enough” knitter. You’ll notice how in the photo above you can’t see both toes at once? I don’t want you noticing how they’re quite the same. They’re fudged, but they’re finished, and I have warm feet with more style than Explorers. Which is the main thing.
