We ate this cauliflower “pasta” with peas and ricotta last night. It was excellent, and not only because all I had to do was email the recipe to the Bloke, go to work, come home, sit down, eat. I ate the leftovers cold for morning tea, it was still good. I’m going to go out on a limb and say best thing ever to do with cauliflower.
Did I ever mention we bought and have been using bamboo toothbrushes? Well they’re good too. Buy them online in a box, and then forget about buying any more toothbrushes for months. If there is more than one person in your house you will need to invest in a quality texta though, because they don’t come in different colours.
We’ve eaten the first few peas of the season, the broad beans are twice as big as we’ve ever grown them (it turns out they like rain! Who knew?) and the parsley and coriander are going to seed. There are self-sown tomatoes popping up, the garlic is nearly ready to harvest and I’ve bought replacement Vietnamese mint.
We’ve even eaten a few dinners outside this week.
Of course, a fortnight ago it snowed just down the road, so we’re not quite out of the frosty woods.

your garden is almost exactly where mine’s at.
Aren’t the broadies great? One of mine shot to about 10 feet!
Beets all went to seed….. not a good season apparently. Even the supermarkets claiming a shortage.

Ok I followed the cauliflower link but am yet to be convinced I could serve it to my family with success.
However, the bamboo toothbrushes are brilliant! Our local council recycles toothbrushes (we are instructed to put them in our usual bottle, plastic and paper wheelie bin) so I’ve not felt too bad about tossing out toothbrushes since moving here, but bamboo ones are even better. I am totally going to be ordering, and then nagging everyone I know to do so.

While I can totally see how your House of Teenage Boys may look at the cauli & pea dinner with suspicion, I can say the three year old and the Bloke (both very keen carnivores) quite enjoyed it.

I have a raised eyebrow (not that I can raise one eyebrow) at the ‘best ever’ cauliflower thing because in my humble opinion, cauliflower is something I expect to heartily enjoy when hell freezes over. But then you went and VOLUNTARILY ate cauliflower leftovers for morning tea. I’m almost, possibly, reaching for the weekly meal planner list thing.

Usually I think cauliflower is an excellent conduit for cheese, but how much cheese sauce can you eat without feeling a little queasy. This cauli recipe involves cheese, but with peas and ricotta you get the cheesey cauli goodness without the blergh and regret later. Also, multiple veg in a meal, triple word score or something.

Have you got the book Everybody Poos? It doesn’t actually tell you what whale poo looks like (it asks) so we rang my Personal Ecologist who filled us in.
Also, if you ever have to disect a whale you will have to throw out every item of clothing you wear during it so make sure you wear your oldest shoes. Apparently nothing gets the stink out.
