So now the boy has an Un Birthday* present of a musical instrument and there’s a spare for parental joining in.

* Christmas Eve babies get all the year’s presents in the space of a week. So we’ve decided to be stingy at Christmas and give him a random mid-year present as well. Incidentally, when a child is 17 months old, you can make wrapping, and later unwrapping, very ceremonial and almost as fun as the present itself.
