There’s been a lot of talk about the stay and defend or leave early policy. Before we head in to another week of high fire danger it’s important to make the “leave early” option really clear. It means “pack your car when you see the forecast for high fire danger/total fire ban”. It means getting in the car early in the morning, each and every time there is a high fire danger, and heading to a safer place, long before you see smoke or flames.

If your fire plan is to leave early, you still need to be prepared for what you’ll do if you get caught and it’s too late to leave.
